Heritage Month & Local History Week
Nau mai, haere mai!
Heritage Month is on its second outing in March 2024. Scheduled over four weeks and at multiple locations across the city, it's a time to deepen our understanding of our place and its people. With more than 50 organisations and individuals offering over 80 talks, workshops, exhibitions and guided experiences during March, there are activities for everyone.
From 1-10 March the City Library is delighted to present Local History Week! This year we are inspired by whenua. The whakataukī (proverb), Whatungarongaro te tangata toitū te whenua, speaks to this theme in the permanence of whenua and the profound nature of connections we develop with the land.
With generous help from our city’s historians, researchers and heritage organisations, we present a week of history; in whenua, on whenua, of whenua, with whenua, and from whenua. We hope you enjoy learning more about our rohe.
what3words/// is an innovative way to provide directions to exact locations anywhere in the world and has inspired our Local History Week activity titles.
