Open Day: Foxton Courthouse

Opened in 1929, the Foxton Courthouse heard both civil and criminal cases until 1948. The courthouse is a brick building with Marseilles roofing tiles, originally built for the sum of £1,860 and Palmerston North’s Messrs LG West & Son were the supervising architects. It comprises of a portico, a witness room, public office and Magistrate’s room on the south side of the courtroom and a public gallery on the northern side. The associated brick cell block, built around 1924, also survives (disused) behind the police station. Upon closing in 1971, the building became the Foxton Historical Society Museum.
