Pioneer of the Airwaves: J. V. Kyle and Radio 2ZO Exhibition

Black and white photo of a man working along a wall array of various radio equipment, dials, switches and connections.

In 1931 radio was transforming from the hobby of a few dedicated enthusiasts into New Zealand’s most popular form of entertainment and information - but Palmerston North still struggled to pick up a good signal from the main stations. All that changed when J.V. Kyle gave Palmerston North a local voice. This exhibition showcases the radios, documents and stories behind the much-loved station’s life - and its controversial demise which led to protest across Manawatū.
