The main section of the Manawatū Herald office was constructed in 1879 and it is the oldest surviving commercial building on Main Street in Foxton. George Warren Russell and his brother, John Ruffell Russell, founded the Manawatū Herald which was produced at the printery until 1964. Now, 147 years later the print shop is still used for some letterpress printing and much of the early equipment is still on site, and in use!
