Te Awahou Nieuwe Stroom: Museums, Exhibitions and Community Stories

Photograph of a smalltown event: a crowd of people mingling on a street dominated on the left by a tall windmill with bunting strung between its sails. To the right is a low, grey building and in the foreground a concrete walkway and parking spaces, while grassy space and trees are visible beyond the buildings.

This multicultural destination celebrates the stories and heritage of Te Awahou Foxton. Developed through partnership between local iwi, the Dutch heritage community and Horowhenua District Council, the facility reflects the shared stories and identity of the town. Discover Māori, Dutch and pioneering history through museum spaces, galleries, exhibitions and the community library, where diverse cultures and traditions are woven together. Visitors can explore exhibitions, artworks and historical displays that reflect the people who have shaped this place over time. A special interactive digital experience will also be available, offering engaging ways to explore museum stories on the day.
