Get Ultrawild with Steve Mushin, Designer and Author

Steve Mushin is a designer and author.  He writes about rewilding cities and runs futures workshops - imagining transforming cities into high-tech habitats for all species.

Steve is the author and illustrator of the science comedy Ultrawild: An Audacious Plan to Rewild Every City on Earth.  Containing 100+ ludicrous, but scientifically possible inventions, Ultrawild has won Best Designed Children's Non-Fiction Book (Australia, 2024), the Elsie Locke Award for Best Nonfiction (NZ, 2024), and it is shortlisted for the 2025 Spark! School Book Awards (UK).  Find out more about Steve Mushin here

Are you aged 9-13? Join Steve for some wild design time when he visits us on Saturday 3 May (Free Comic Book Day), as you encounter the following brief -

It's 2100.  Aotearoa is covered with towering forests filled with birds.  Palmerston North is a high-tech jungle city where native animals rule the ground, protected by robot bird security guards with lasers.  And people live in 3D printed tree houses with compost cannon toilets, and ride flying bikes to work and school.

Inventor Steve Mushin is working to bring this story to life.  He's illustrated a book of 100+ inventions to transform cities into jungles - it's called ULTRAWILD, and you're invited to join the design team.

Come and imagine the future with Steve and develop your own ideas for ultrawild cities.  Choose between one of two workshops (you can only register for one) - an ultrawild extreme comic making workshop OR an ultrawild extreme modelling lab.
