Join us for a stellar weekend of literature in the Off the Page literary series, featuring two of Aotearoa New Zealand’s most compelling contemporary voices: award-winning authors Ingrid Horrocks and Josie Shapiro. Hosted in conversation with acclaimed novelist and Massey University creative writing lecturer Thom Conroy, this event promises an illuminating dive into the art of storytelling, navigating genres, and bringing complex inner worlds to life.
Fresh off winning the prestigious 2026 Jann Medlicott Acorn Prize for Fiction for her masterful debut short story collection, All Her Lives, Ingrid Horrocks will share insights from her recent transition into fiction after three decades of celebrated work as a poet, essayist, and memoirist. Joining her is Josie Shapiro, the breakout talent behind the Allen & Unwin Fiction Prize-winning debut Everything is Beautiful and Everything Hurts and her highly anticipated follow-up novel, Good Things Come and Go. Together with Thom Conroy, author of The Naturalist, they will explore the vulnerabilities and triumphs of crafting fiction, the influence of place on their narratives, and what it truly takes to make stories resonate long after they leave the page.
Whether you are an aspiring writer, a passionate reader, or simply curious about the creative process, don't miss this unique opportunity to engage with three exceptional literary minds.
