Sir Geoffrey Cox, born in Palmerston North, led an incredible life. He graduated from Otago University with an MA in History and was then awarded a Rhodes Scholarship to study at Oxford. He secured a foothold in Fleet Street and covered major events in the turbulent 1930's decade. In 1940, he joined the second NZ Division and saw action in Greece, North Africa and Italy. He was plucked from war service to become First Secretary of our Legation in Washington. In the 1950's, he became a television pioneer, establishing News at Ten for ITN. Cox was knighted by the Queen in 1966.
