Festival of Cultures

Each year Palmerston North hosts one of its biggest events, the Festival of Cultures. Over this time, you will find multiple activities including a Movie night, World fair, Teas and Coffees of the World, a Pasifika stenciling session at Te Manawa, and a special Peteca session at Central Library.

Peteca is a colourful shuttlecock used in a popular game that has been played in Brazil for generations. Come and make your own on Friday at Central Library. The session is brought to you by the Palmeirinhos Brazillian Community Group.

Keep an eye out for the Library stall at the World Fair on Saturday 21st February and find out more about the Community Languages Collection! There will also be activities including making a chain of welcomes and a quick book hunt.

As part of the festivities, find Festival of Cultures book displays at the libraries. For our youth there is a paper crane origami station with Senbazuru at Youth Space. There will also be community displays at Central Library from the Brazilian Community, a written speech from the Manawatū Bangalee Society Inc, children's colouring in pictures and more.

Last year for Welcoming Week, we asked people to submit some of their ways they welcome people into the community. What better time to give people ideas of how to welcome others as we celebrate our diverse city!
