Autism Acceptance Month

For someone with sensory processing differences, the world can be:

Overstimulating - strong smells, crowds, uncomfortable clothing, temperature changes
Loud - street noise, sudden sounds, heat pumps, voices, computers whirring
Bright - fluorescent lights, flashing lights, neon signs

The City Library is supporting Autism Acceptance Month with a number of initiatives:

  • Check out the book display on the First Floor of the Central Library covering a range of topics and stories featuring autistic authors and characters.
  • You can also search our catalogue on the website or app using the keyword 'autism'
  • Thanks to Awapuni and Roslyn Community Libraries for participating in the Nationwide Quiet Hour on April 2nd
  • Join in the fun at our Autism Acceptance Month Creative Session where you can chat with the Autism NZ Outreach Coordinator for Manawatū. Places limited and registration is essential. Email pncl@pncc.govt.nz or complete this form. Suitable for ages 8-14yrs. Participants get to take home their creation.
  • Interested in low sensory sessions or the Sensory Play Station at the Central Library? Email pncl@pncc.govt.nz to find out more.
