Different iwi use different star markers to guide when they celebrate the Māori New Year. Here in Papaioea we use Puanga.
Puanga takes a central role in Matariki celebrations this year, on Friday June 20th. The City Library will be closed on that day, but back to usual hours on Saturday.
The Palmerston North Puanga celebrations will be at the Central Energy Trust Arena again this year. Take the whānau down for some kai and entertainment.
Find out more about how Puanga will feature in this year's national celebrations in this article from RNZ.
There's also a Puanga-themed Passport to Play, which guides you to special locations around the region.
