Dying Matters Week 2025

Dying Matters Week 2025 is coordinated locally by Laura Sweetman Independent Funeral Director and Palmerston North City Library, and runs from September 1-7.

Dying Matters Week brings together local experts and information, supports open conversations, and offers accessible resources about death and grief. It's about empowering people to make end-of-life decisions and plans for their peace of mind and that of their loved ones.

Programme highlights include:

  • Talks on Wills, Probate, Estates, EPOAs and Advance Care Planning with Community Law and Te Whatu Ora.
  • Helpful tips for documenting memoirs with Heather Thomson from Tell Your Story.
  • Discovery days at The Lychway and Kelvin Grove Cemetery.
  • Compassionate Touch at End of Life: Hand Cream Workshop with Lynn Kirkland sponsored by The Herb Farm

Please note that some activities require registration through the Go With Grace website. You can also contact the local coordinators for assistance.

The Central Library will also feature the community submissions of stories, poetry and art for 'Remembering Your Loved One' as well as a curated selection of books and resources.

In the words of the incredibly supportive Manawatū Death Cafe, 'talking about death won't make it happen sooner - but it might help you live more fully'.
