Dutch Language Weekend 2025

A weekend of activities across New Zealand from 4 to 7 December!

Dutch Language Weekend celebrates the Dutch language as a vibrant connection between people, culture, and community. Spoken by around 24 million people worldwide - primarily in the Netherlands and Belgium, and also in Suriname and parts of the Caribbean - Dutch ranks among the 40 most widely spoken languages in the world.

This weekend highlights the value of multilingualism and the important role language plays in shaping identity. Across New Zealand, a range of events and activities will bring together Dutch-speaking communities, as well as anyone curious about the Dutch language and culture. The programme includes activities for children, students, families, and older generations throughout the country, designed to be inclusive, accessible, and welcoming to all.
