The Philippines archipelago consists of more than 7600 islands and over 110 million people, making it the 12th most populous country in the world. Palmerston North has had an active and vibrant Filipino community for many years. The Philippine Central Association was founded in 1991 with a vision of being a support group for Filipinos married to Kiwis. Independence Day, also known as Araw ng Kalayaan or Day of Freedom, is celebrated on June 12th and this year marks the 127th celebration of the 1898 Declaration of Independence from Spain.
On Saturday 14th June, join the Philippine Central Association for a Flag Raising ceremony at 10am in Te Marae o Hine The Square then head to the Central Library for a programme of celebration and entertainment.
