War in the Hutt: 1846

180 years ago, a complex maelstrom of issues around land sales, colonial settlement and intra-iwi politics led to the outbreak of war in the Hutt Valley. While the ensuing conflict only lasted a few months and took relatively few lives, it had a profound influence on the subsequent settlement of New Zealand, and led indirectly to later conflicts in Whanganui, Taranaki and elsewhere.

Presented by LTCOL Richard Taylor, DMS, PhD, Director New Zealand Wars Study Centre.

Co- hosted by RNZE CT/ECMC and Palmerston North City Library.
Donations to the RNZE Charitable Trust would be appreciated.
