Walkshop: Edwards Pit Park

Photograph of a person pushing a wheelbarrow full of plant matter down a grassy incline. There is a small stand of trees and flax in front of the figure and a cliff wall in the background. A green information board is partially visible behind the stand of trees.

The strata in the exposed cliff at Edwards Pit Park contains a record of how the landscape around Palmerston North evolved in response to climate change (glacial and interglacial) and mountain erosion. The presence of volcanic deposits is a reminder of the proximity of active volcanism and its likely influence on the region. Join sedimentologist, Julie Palmer, on a fascinating guided tour of the park.
