Bohumil Pospíšil: Interwar Globetrotter and Adventurer

An old photographic portrait of an unsmiling man wearing round, black-rimmed spectacles, a campaign hat, and a suit and tie. He is posed at a 3 quarter angle.

Learn about interwar globetrotter and adventurer Bohumil Pospíšil (1902-1974). His five-year trip around the world began in August 1926 and he visited some 50 countries. With only one suit, a backpack, a minimum of cash, and using a wide range of transport options, Pospíšil travelled over 160,000 kilometres in total. During his world trip, he saw immeasurable wealth, poverty and misery. He took thousands of photographs, depicting natural beauty, cultural monuments, traditions, ceremonies, celebrations, conflicts, and everyday life. His last stop was New Zealand where he spent almost a year and married a NZ woman. Join Dr. Martin Nekola as he tells the story of Bohumil Pospíšil’s travels.
