A celebration of writing by students from non-English speaking backgrounds at Palmerston North Intermediate Normal School. All 20 years now available to be viewed at home, anywhere in the world, on Manawatu Heritage.
Palmerston North City Library is celebrating 20 years of First Voice. This is a yearly celebration of writing by students from non-English speaking backgrounds at Palmerston North Intermediate Normal School.
Each each the students work on their piece, around a theme, and prepare their texts. They write in both their first language and in English. Each piece of writing is compiled into a book that is published into the yearly publication. There is a display at the library and an evening celebrating the students.
Two ways to search for these publications. Go to our library catalogue, and search for 'First Voice'. You'll find both print and electronic copies listed there.
While the library has held print copies in our collection, for the 20 years celebration we have digitized all editions, and added them to our digital repository Manawatū Heritage. Now you can browse full colour PDFs of the print book from each year. Go to Manawatū Heritage, and search for 'First Voice'.
