The Chaisers have destroyed our Facebook page

    10 November 2010

Things are looking bad….very bad indeed… for Palmerston North City Library. Members of the Library IT team have been spotted engaged in grave discussion devising plans for the survival of their library. Dismayed librarians are appealing to the City Librarian seeking immediate action against the unknown forces that have captured their Facebook platform.

“After a thorough investigation into the matter, we have some leads on the suspects who are claiming to be the mastermind behind this hacking operation. I can neither confirm nor deny whether the sinister group identifying themselves as ‘the Chaisers’ are in fact responsible for this crime”, said Leith Haarhoff, the Creative Digital Manager. “The group have claimed responsibility and they have shown no hint of remorse in their wrong-doing. We have to stop them before they take control of our other social networking platforms,” says Jay Robinson, the Community Connections Manager at the Library.

When asked what their next step will be, Leith Haarhoff expressed his concern: “We are doing everything we can but unless we are able to identify the way these Chaisers work, it is going to be difficult catching and defeating them. As part of our emergency recovery strategy, we’ve set up a new site to list the upcoming library events, and thankfully our website still remains intact – but for how long?”

Meanwhile, allegedly having hacked into the Library’s Facebook account, these ‘Chaisers’ are reported to have been boasting of their victory. Slowly but surely, they are also revealing their true colours (stealing books and e-Readers from the library). We hope that this information will aid the librarians in their quest.

As the battle continues, the library has turned into a virtual warzone with courageous librarians fighting against the unknown. Lives (and books) are at stake and the virtual environment is a mess. It is expected that the hunt to capture the culprits red-handed will continue over the coming few weeks. The City Library is urging all patrons to be on the lookout for the ‘Chaisers'.

Is this the end of librarianship as we know it?
