On 13 December, approximately 100 scientists, engineers, artists and creative thinkers gathered at Te Manawa Museum of Art, Science and History to begin a conversation on how Palmerston North might establish a national centre for science-technology-art.
In the audience were biologists, chemists, physicists, anthropologists, professors of ethics, social science and more. There were professional mediators, fine artists, company directors, performance artists, photographers and senior college students as well as leaders of tertiary education institutions and city councillors.
The guest speaker was Dr Ionatt Zurr, co-founder of SymbioticA. Dr Zurr was named inThames & Hudson’s “60 Innovators Shaping our Creative Future” and by Icon Magazine as one of the top 20 Designers, “making the future and transforming the way we work”. Science-technology-art covers a broad range; Dr Zurr is a specialist in bio-art, one aspect of the field.
