Our Walks & Tours programme for Local History week is always popular! We have limited spaces available so bookings for many of them will be essential. To make a booking or to make a general enquiry, contact us at the Research & Archives department on 06 351 4100 or visit us in person on the second floor of the City Library.

TUESDAY 5th NOVEMBER
The Buildings of Te Pae Matauranga Ki Te Ao
This walk takes you on a short tour of UCOL’s buildings spread along King, Queen and Princess Streets, including the site of the former Palmerston North Technical School.

TOUR: An Afternoon at ‘Kaingahou’
Tour the historic Monrad homestead before enjoying afternoon tea.

Sculptures installed by the Palmerston North Public Sculpture Trust
Tour the seven sculptures installed between 2007 – 2012, with discussion about the origins of the works and the artists involved.

A Walk Beside the Manawatu: the history of a river that is like no other
Explore the special features of the Manawatu River, its relationship to the history of Palmerston North, the times of drama and of fun in or around the river.

SATURDAY 9 NOVEMBER
Victoria Esplanade
The Esplanade was opened in 1897  to mark Queen Victoria’s 60th Jubilee. Historic Places Manawatu Horowhenua will guide you through its history, buildings, pools and trees.

Walk the Ashhurst History Trail
