Adult Learning Fair
Monday 7th September - 10.30am - 4.00pm
World Languages, 1st Floor, Central Library
A number of different organisations from around the local area will be hosting stands and letting people know about the adult learning opportunities they provide.
The groups will include adult literacy and numeracy, ESOL, lifelong learning, community education. Many of these groups also provide tutor training courses so may be of interest to people who want to teach as well as learn. The event will start with a talk by Councillor Annette Nixon and a morning tea.
Dr Franco Vaccarino will be talking about “Adult Literacy in the 21st Century”
Tuesday 8th September
1.00pm – 2.00pm Sound and Vision, Ground Floor, Central Library
Dr Franco Vaccarino has worked in South Africa and New Zealand and will be drawing on his experiences in these countries. He has worked on some really interesting projects such as a literacy scheme in a commercial bank in Johannesburg and a family literacy project in various sites throughout South Africa, including urban and rural areas, a farm school, a squatter camp, a mother-child prison, an AIDS-orphaned village, and a special needs school.
Computer Classes
Tuesday 8th – Friday 11th September – Various times in Non Fiction
Computer sessions introducing useful websites that can be accessed for free on library computers.
All classes are free.
Limited numbers so please book at the Issues Desk, Mezzanine Floor, Central Library.
