Cyber-space news
From the 19th of May there will be a new system to provide access to the Internet computers in Community Cyber-space and the Welcome Lounge.
We will be phasing out the computer card system, but can move any credit on computer cards on to your account. The new system will require you to create an account using your Library barcode and pin number. Credit can be added to accounts using a money acceptor machine.
Please bring your library card every time you use Community Cyberspace. If you do not have a library card or want to check your library details, ask at the Membership desk. (It is free to join the City library). If you do not want to be a library member we will have other options available but you will still need an account.
There may be an interruption of service from Tuesday 13th – 15th of May. We will endeavour to keep this to a minimum.
Benefits of the new system:
- Recover your unused credit - to give better value for your money, the new system will refund your unused minutes back to your account so you can use them at your next visit.
- Easier self service – a coin and bank-note acceptor will be available allowing you to credit your account without waiting at a service desk.
- Cheaper – well only slightly. We are dropping our charges from 50 cents for 15 minutes to 45 cents. (Effectively 3 cents per minute).
- Easier access to programmes - this should be more user friendly, including easier navigation from the desktop.
- Colour Printing – an A4 inkjet printer will be available for self service
- Reservations – you will be able to reserve a computer ahead of time and know that one will be waiting for you when you arrive.
