PROJECT MANAAKI – Transforming the Living Room of the City
In 1986 we moved to our new home, the Living Room of the City. In 2011, some fifteen years later, the Living Room will again transform itself. This transformation is called Project Manaaki.
Are you ready for a surprise? Between May and July this year Project Manaaki will bring you a whole new library café and welcome service on the Mezzanine floor and a new integrated service point on the first floor. We’ll be meeting you wherever you are and providing proactive customer service. There will be some disruption to normal service during this period, but we guarantee it will be worth it. So prepare to be surprised and delighted.
What is Project Manaaki?
The principle of Manaaki embodies uplifting, care, regard and respect for others, and is a core value of tikanga Maori. It seems fitting to base our metamorphosis on Manaaki, because all of the changes we are making are for the purpose of improving people’s experience of the Living Room.
A new welcome service
A new welcome service will operate on a fully open-plan Mezzanine Floor to welcome and invite visitors. Along with the existing newspaper reading lounge and computers, the floor will house three community meeting rooms and a community space called the Village Green. These new spaces will be available to the community to book.
A new service point on the first floor
Our Central Library service arrangements are being centralised on the first floor. These will include a centralised service point for issues, membership and reserved items.
Proactive customer service
From the new desk on the first floor, proactive customer service will be co-ordinated to assist customers anywhere across the library spaces. We’ll be meeting our customers’ needs wherever they are.
Will there be disruptions?
All efforts will be made to reduce disruptions during this time. However, there may be occasions during the renovation process where access to some areas of the library is limited. Updates on the building process will be regularly posted on our website.
Prepare to be surprised and delighted
Are we excited? Absolutely! We love surprising and delighting our community of library users
