Project Manaaki frequently asked questions
What is Project Manaaki?
We are determined to provide an inspiring and vibrant library service, and be the best we can be. We are changing the way we do things, and this includes making improvements to our building. Project Manaaki is the name we are using to describe these changes.
Why are you changing?
To improve our service to you.
What are you changing?
A new welcome service will provide assistance and orientate visitors to the Living Room of the City. This will be located on the Mezzanine Floor. Three new community meeting rooms and an open-plan floor space that we are calling the "Village Square" will also be developed on the Mezzanine Floor. The Village Square will be available to the community to book for events and functions. Our service arrangements are being centralised on the First Floor. These will include:
- a new and improved service desk
- more self-service options and
- an improved proactive customer service.
Our staff will be able to assist you wherever you are in the library. Kuppa Café is being revitalised. The café opens under a new brand in late July of this year.
When will you start and finish the building improvements?
Kuppa Café will be closed from Thursday 21st April 2011, and will open under a new brand in early September 2011. Work on the Welcome Desk and the relocation of the Issues Desk will begin in late June. Relocation of the Issues Desk to the 1st Floor is expected to take 3 weeks. All building work is expected to be completed by early September. The building timetable is subject to change.
Will there be any disruption?
Yes. There will be some disruption and some noise. Access to the building will be managed to keep visitors to the library safe. This means that some areas of the library may be inaccessible from time to time. Some library programmes will be modified. Some library programmes and events will not be affected. We will try to keep disruptions to a minimum. For updates to library programmes visit the library website regularly.
