About the Catalogue
The Library catalogue shows all the titles held by Palmerston North City Library's Central Library, and the branch libraries (including the Mobile Library).
There are a number of search options available. The Quick Search menu is the one on the main page. Six search types can be selected from the drop-down menu, as shown below. Click the down-arrow to the right of the search box to display the list. Enter your search terms and either click Go or press Enter.
Quick Search
Format Search
If you wish to search for items in a specific format, such as DVDs, music CDs, large print titles or books on tape or CD, click on Format Search to bring up this search menu. These are all alphabetical browse searches so you just need to enter the first few words of the title.
Advanced Search
The advanced search tab will allow you to perform cross-index searching. For example if you wish to find items about Palmerston North and the Manawatu written by Ian Matheson, enter MATHESON in the Author Keyword search box, and MANAWATU in the Subject Keyword search box.
By default AND is assumed (author = Matheson AND subject = Manawatu). In some cases you may choose to change this to an OR operator using the drop-down list), but this may give too many search results.
Refining your searches using limiting and sorting
Limiting: The advanced search lets you limit search results to display only items that meet certain conditions, such as items located at a specific library.
Sorting: To improve speed, keyword search results are not presented in any particular order. You may prefer to have results returned in a specified order. Choose an option from the drop-down list in the Sorting section. Some of the choices here are alpha order by author, alpha by title, publication date with most recent first, and so on.

The library catalogue tutorials are free of charge but bookings are essential. Bookings can be made at any Information Desk or by phoning the library during opening hours.
Alternatively, you can contact our Community Cyber-space Librarian for further information and to make a booking.

Placing requests on magazines
To place a request on a magazine you need to ask for a specific copy of the title, not the first available copy.
