New Zealand Post Children's Book Awards 2012

The New Zealand Post Children's Book Awards reward excellence in children's literature, recognising the best books for children and teenagers published annually in New Zealand.

Manawatu 2012 Festival Celebrations

Join in the Festival of events and activities celebrating the New Zealand Post Children's Book Awards. 

The Festival officially runs from Monday 7th May to Tuesday 15th May 2012.

This year's programme features:

  • Pre-school Pyjama Party sessions celebrating picture book finalist The Cat's Pyjamas by Catherine Foreman.
  • A Pre-historic creature model competition.
  • A Dinosaur and Fossil Dig event at Te Manawa (bookings required)
  • A special Stories @ 6 session celebrating the 2012 finalists.

What creature have you discovered from an ancient imaginary fossil?

Be inspired by the books: Digging up the Past - Archaeology for the Young and Curious by David Veart and The Life Cycle of the Tuatara by Betty Brownlie (two finalists in the New Zealand Post Children's Book Awards 2012), to help you create your very own prehistoric creature. 

Stories @ 6

A fun 45 minute story time for the whole family.  Starting in May and finishing in September.  Held the FIRST FRIDAY of each month in the Children's Zone of the Central Library.  Come join us for hot chocolate and marshmallows too!
