How we behave in our library

Palmerston North City Library’s Code of Conduct

Our Library is a great place to be in.

We want it to be the kind of place that everyone can enjoy and feel safe in.  This means we all need to be considerate of others. Our Code of Conduct is for the protection of Library visitors, patrons, users, staff, facilities and surrounds.

We hope you enjoy the use of our wonderful facilities and respect the rules outlined in our Code of Conduct.

The Rules:

  • Threatening, abusive, discriminating, offensive, disruptive or harassing language and/or behaviour of any kind is not allowed.  This includes talking with members of the public who do not want to talk with you.
  • Posting notices, distributing circulars or petitions, soliciting or engaging in any commercial activity on library property is not allowed unless you have permission from library staff.
  • Taking photographs or video recordings in the Library is not allowed unless you have permission from library staff.
  • Alcohol or illegal drugs are not allowed to be brought into the Library.  You are not allowed to use the Library if you are under the influence of either.
  • Skateboards, bikes, and inline skates are not to be used in the library.  Mobility scooters are to be driven slowly and with due consideration to others.
  • Damage, misuse, or theft of library materials, equipment and property is not allowed.
  • Children requiring supervision must not be left unattended in the Library.
  • Animals are not allowed in the library, with the exception of those that assist the hearing and sight impaired.

The Procedure:

  • If you are asked by a staff member to cease any particular behaviour, you are to respond to that request immediately.
  • If you do not comply, you may be asked to leave the Library, the Police could be called, or you could be issued with a trespass order.

Please help the staff to ensure that the City Library is a welcoming, comfortable, and safe public space for all to enjoy.
