Tukutuku Panel
The women of the Highbury Weaving roopu presented a Tukutuku panel to support the opening of the Library in Highbury.
The panel was weaved by Yvonne Marshall.
Yvonne Marshall's explanation...
"Because I had chosen green which depicted youth, growth and Papatuanuku as the background, I then chose the Pトォngao as representing the shore and the sea, above that are the footprints of the Pナォkeko (Swamp bird) as it comes towards the green growth. At the centre of the Panel we have Te Pト》ikitiki (Flounder) representing the sea
life and also sea food which has always
been known as food for the brain,
which is what we as a roopu see this Library
as being, for all those who enter and partake.
To either side, but near the top, I have
depicted two rows of single weave at different levels which to me are those who will benefit from this library in their own time and at their own pace.
Above all this is the Purapurawhetu
(The stars in heaven) which of course is
achieving the goals we set for ourselves.
On each side of the Panel and on the spine of Te Pト》ikitiki is the Keikei woven in the
Tナォmatakahuki style; the overlapping wrapped
weave on both sides is that which binds us all together."
