Membership
Membership of Palmerston North City Library is free to all adults living within the city boundaries, to city ratepayers, and to all children and young adults of high school age.
Adults living outside the boundaries can become members by paying an annual subscription or a per item charge.
You will be asked to agree to our conditions of membership for adults or for your child
How to Join Palmerston North City Library
Come to the Central Library, or any Branch Library or to the Mobile Library bus
Adults need to bring:
Identification with their name and signature.
Proof of address, such as a power bill (less than one month old) with your address printed on it.
If you have identification but no proof of address we give you a temporary 'new member' card which is updated when proof of address is produced.
Young Adults need:
ID such as school identification or a bank statement.
Your parent or legal guardian will need to sign the conditions of membership form for all Young Adults under the age of 18.
If you have identification but have not yet obtained your parents' signature on the Membership form we will give you a temporary ‘new membership' status, which will give you limited borrowing rights until we receive the signed conditions of membership form from your parents or guardian.
Children need:
To get a Children's Registration Form signed by parent or guardian .
If the parent or guardian is with their child they will be asked for identification.
Kids Zone : bring the family
We have a large collection of picture books, books on CD, jigsaws and children's DVDs for hire.
Our preschool programme, Jumping Jellybeans, runs during term time at our Central, Awapuni and Roslyn Branch Libraries.

Public access computers are located on the Mezzanine Floor in Community Cyber-space.
These computers offer a range of access, including Internet, Microsoft Office and scanning.
We also offer a range of tutorials.

The Volunteer Programme provides opportunities for volunteering at the City Library, including Housebound Book Selecting, Shelf-Checking and Tidying and Housebound Delivery.

Learning to Drive
We have copies of the Official New Zealand Road Code for Car Drivers available for issue. This item is in heavy demand, but there are copies available to look at in the library. Please ask at an information desk for help locating the Road Code.
An overview of New Zealand's road rules for new residents can be read via our Free Access Websites in the following languages: Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Fijian, Samoan, Malay or Hindi.
We also provide access to the CD-ROM New Zealand Roadcode Testdrive on some of our public computers. Please ask at an information desk for help accessing this resource.
