The ever-popular Childrens Summer Reading Programme is back!
The Summer Reading Programme is a fantastic event to get involved in and sparks hot competition from our city’s kids to enter. It has an uncanny knack of promoting the enjoyment of reading by being uproarious fun – and not just for the kids involved! It’s one of the highlights of the staff calendar as well with pretty much everyone volunteering to get involved if they can.
It involves children from the ages of 4 – 10 years talking to staff about what they have been reading and they earn rewards after they finish the programme. We even have a huge celebration party to cap everything off.
We also have an ‘iRead’ programme for Intermediate aged children who are 11-12 years old. This time, the kids also write us book reviews, for every three reviews they do they are able to select a new book to take home and keep.
Now for the important, important, important part. These programmes are so popular people always miss out on a place on them. What we do is run a ballot system so every year, different kids get the opportunity to do the programme. You’ve got to be ‘in it to win it’ as they say
