Award-winning Slam Poet Ali Jacs at the Youth Space
Join the NZ Poetry Slam movement with AMPLIFY!
As part of the 2014 KUPU series Ali Jacs will be running a series of Slam workshops for young people, from the Youth Space. AMPLIFY! workshop series includes four sessions run over four weeks, and culminates in performance night on 6 September 2014. “Poetry Slam is a rapidly growing art form” says Ali. “There’s a huge difference between performing slam poetry and simply reading poetry aloud. You get the whole package – words, form, voice, emotion and atmosphere. It’s a special kind of story-telling, which brings poetry alive in an audience-interactive extravaganza”.
Ali has seriously earned her stripes. She was the 2012 New Zealand National Poetry Slam winner, and went on to compete in the 2013 Women of the World Poetry Slam in Minneapolis. She has performed her work in the UK, Canada, the USA, Sydney and Melbourne as well as at schools, concerts, museums and poetry slams throughout the country.
Places for this workshop series are limited and filling up fast. If you’re interested and want to know more contact Alan Dingley at the Youth Space on Facebook or phone 06 351 4126.
