About the Adult Learning collection

The Adult Learning collection is part of the World Languages Living Room at Central Library.  It is found on the 1st floor of the Central Library, where the ramp exits into the Non-Fiction Zone.

It has books, cassettes, CDs and videos to help:

  • Improve literacy skills for adults whose first language is English
  • Adults learning English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
  • Tutors of literacy and English for Speakers of Other Languages

Subjects covered

Some of the subjects covered in this collection include:

  • Grammar, reading, writing, vocabulary, mathematics and spelling materials for adult new learners
  • Books and tapes or CDs  to help with pronunciation, speaking, listening and communicating in English
  • IELTS practice material
  • Books and book and cassette/CD sets for new readers. These graded readers are available from starter to advanced levels and cover a wide range of fiction, non-fiction and biographies of interest to adults.

Library tours

We can arrange tours of the Library and Adult Learning collection for tutors with groups of adult literacy or ESOL students.
